Four brothers, Walter, Lewis, Elmer, and Robert Altfather, direct descendants of Friedrich Altvater, honored their ancestors who built this mill and were pioneers of the area. According to recorded history, Washington's troops watered their horses at the mill on their way to Berlin during the Whiskey Rebellion in 1794.
