Established by private landowners in 1850 at the corner of Division and N 5th St., this cemetery was founded on land acquired from the Menominee Nation under the 1848 Treaty of Lake Poygan. Also known as the Old West Side Cemetery or the Town Cemetery, it holds the remains of many early residents of modern Winneconne. Ownership passed to the town of Winneconne in 1860 and then to the village of Winneconne in 1974. The cemetery served both as a mourning scene and as an active community space where children played and adults picnicked. It holds the remains of families who perished during outbreaks of diphtheria and scarlet fever from 1850 to 1870. Burial ceased there in 1873, and by law it is a protected burial site.
