Beaver Creek Resort near Avon, Colorado, developed from a lightly settled valley first homesteaded in 1881 into one of the state’s major ski destinations. Planned in concept from the 1950s and opened for the 1980–81 season after earlier Olympic ambitions collapsed, it expanded steadily through new bowls, lifts, villages, and terrain additions that created its present multi-village form. The resort now spans five mountains, two bowls, 2,082 skiable acres, and 167 trails, with terrain for all skill levels. It is also a prominent international racing venue, while its setting beside the Holy Cross Wilderness links major resort infrastructure directly to protected mountain landscape.
