Iron Mountain is a 6,826-foot summit in the eastern Olympic Mountains of Washington, in the Buckhorn Wilderness of Olympic National Forest. West of Quilcene, it stands between Buckhorn Mountain and Mount Worthington and rises sharply above the Big Quilcene River and Buckhorn Lake. Its waters drain south to the Big Quilcene River and north into Copper Creek, a tributary of the Dungeness River, while old-growth Douglas fir, western hemlock, and western redcedar fill the valleys below. Its climate reflects Pacific weather systems, bringing heavy rain, winter snow, and avalanche danger, with clearer summer skies. Geologically, it is part of an Olympic range formed from obducted oceanic and sedimentary material and later shaped by Pleistocene glaciation and erosion.
