Mamie and A.P. George
History
5
Both descendants of early Texas settlers, Mary Elizabeth "Mamie" Davis (1877-1971) and Albert Peyton George (1873-1955) served Richmond and Fort Bend County through ranching and philanthropy. After marrying in 1896, they moved to the old Ryon Family Homestead and built a folk Victorian cottage, completed in 1899 and remodeled in 1911. A.P. and Mamie managed ranching and farming interests and gained special notice for developing the Brahorn cattle breed. Through generous financial support, they became the driving force behind many community projects, and in 1945 they established the George Foundation to benefit the people of Fort Bend County.
