Utah Field House of Natural History State Park Museum in Vernal preserves and presents the deep natural and human history of northeastern Utah, especially the country around the Uinta Mountains and Uinta Basin. Authorized in 1945 after local advocacy, funded in 1946, and opened in 1948, it grew from efforts to protect the region’s fossil heritage and has since welcomed millions of visitors. Its exhibits cover more than 600 million years of geology, Fremont artifacts and local petroglyph reproductions, Ute cultural materials, and native animal life. Outside, the Dinosaur Garden features 17 full-sized prehistoric animal replicas spanning the Pennsylvanian to the Pleistocene.
