The Kromer Barn was built with post-and-beam construction in which each oak board was notched with a tenon, fitted into a carved mortise in each upright post, and secured with a hand-carved oak peg. During World War II, from 1941 to 1945, the U.S. Government confiscated the Kromer Farm, which became part of the Plum Brook Ordnance Works, known today as the NASA Plum Brook Station. The barn was saved by being moved to a nearby farm, while the other buildings on the Kromer Farm were bulldozed by the government. Jack Kromer gave the barn to the Village in 1989, and it is currently used for storage.
