Toyah began in 1881 as a division point on the T. & P. Railway, with shops, a roundhouse, a hotel, and a cafe. Water was hauled from Monahans and sold by the barrel. In 1882, a stage carried passengers and mail to Brogado. Cattle shipping brought cowboy-detective Charles Siringo here to look for rustlers.
