Bidwell's Bar served as the second county seat of Butte County from 1853 to 1856. The site of the courthouse was 120 yards west of this point. The original site of this monument was one mile northeast and was rededicated June 6, 1981 by Argonaut Parlor No. 8 Native Sons of the Golden West.
