On July 3, after taking part in the fighting on the previous two days at Gettysburg and Hunterstown, Green's Battery of Jones's Battalion, in Early's Division of Ewell's Corps, Army of Northern Virginia, was detached from its battalion, brought its Parrott guns here, and rendered important service in the cavalry battle, not withdrawing until after dark. The battery was part of the Louisiana Guard Artillery and had two 10 pounder Parrotts and two 3 inch rifles. Its losses were 2 killed and 5 wounded, for a total of 7, and 2 horses were disabled.
