On July 2, Fitzhugh Lee's Brigade of Stuart's Cavalry Division in the C.S.A. Army of Northern Virginia brought only its five Virginia cavalry regiments to the field, because the 1st Maryland Battalion was on duty with Ewell's Corps. The brigade arrived soon after midday, took position on the left of Hampton's Brigade on the edge of the neighboring woods, and participated actively in the conflict that followed. Its losses were 5 killed, 16 wounded, 29 missing, for a total of 50.
