Town lots for LaGrange were laid out by 1827, and the town's population in 1830 was 27. By 1850, LaGrange had 400 residents as the railroad attracted new businesses, and the older frame buildings on the campus reflect the typical architecture of this 1850s town. The Oldham County History Center opened in 1998 and includes the Peyton Samuel Head Family Museum, circa 1840, in the original Isaac and Malvina Risley House; the original root cellar from the 1840s Risley House; the Road Warrior Sculpture, a tribute to World War II veterans and the Greatest Generation; the Rob Morris Educational Building, circa 1880, in the original Presbyterian Church; the J.C. Barnett Library and Archives, circa 1840, in the original James and Amanda Mount House; the Mildred Wheeler Horton Colonial Garden highlighting heirloom herbs, vegetables, and flowers; and the Dahlgren Pioneer Barn, completed in 2018 with a colonial hearth and bread oven.
