The first public building in the Jackson Purchase area was built in 1823 for $100. It was originally erected at Wadesboro, the Calloway county seat from 1822 to 1842, where its first session of court was held on Feb. 13, 1823. It remained in use until a new courthouse was built in 1831. When Murray became the county seat in 1843, the log building was moved there. It has been used as a residence for over a century.
