Judge George H. Joslyn was born near Ithaca, New York, on August 19, 1840. He came to Arkansas in 1868, secured land in this area, and became a planter on a 5,000-acre plantation. As a member of the Arkansas state legislature, he introduced a bill in 1870 providing for the organization of Lincoln County and personally named the new county “Lincoln” in honor of President Abraham Lincoln, whom he most admired and respected. After the county was organized, he served as county and probate judge for six years from 1871 to 1876. On February 24, 1872, he gave this land to Lincoln County, and on April 16, 1872, the second term of court ordered that a courthouse be erected in the public square of Star City on land he had given. Joslyn died in 1928 and was buried in Roselawn Memorial Park in Little Rock along with many other members of the Joslyn-Carder family. The Carder family came to Arkansas from Virginia in 1850, settling in Grant County near Sheridan and later coming to Lincoln County in 1925. The Joslyn-Carder family was created in 1933 when Maxine Joslyn, granddaughter of Judge George H. Joslyn, married William Hershel Carder.
