Formerly called Yellow Springs, Chester Springs was the site of a Revolutionary hospital built by authority of Congress in 1777 about one hundred yards north of this point. Many Revolutionary soldiers who died there are buried in this vicinity. Dr. Samuel Kennedy, its director and surgeon, died here June 17, 1778.
