Horsetail Falls is a waterfall on Horsetail Creek in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge, where the stream drops through a break in the columnar basalt cliffs of Oneonta Gorge. Known for its rounded, tail-like shape and easy roadside access along the Historic Columbia River Highway, it is among the gorge’s most readily viewed falls. The creek has two falls: the lower Horsetail Falls beside the highway and the upper fall, also called Ponytail Falls, reached by trail. The site also includes the 1914 Horsetail Falls Bridge, a notable historic highway structure. Despite the easy access, steep nearby trails have been the scene of fatal accidents.
