Cornell Botanic Gardens in Ithaca, New York, unites display gardens, the F. R. Newman Arboretum, and a wider network of natural areas across thousands of acres around Cornell. Rooted in the university’s early vision and shaped by forestry programs, it developed into a separate arboretum department in 1935, with Civilian Conservation Corps work giving the landscape much of its early structure. Expanded as Cornell Plantations in the 1940s and renamed in 2016, it serves as both a public garden and an academic resource.
