Triphammer Falls is a fifty-five-foot waterfall on Fall Creek in Ithaca, New York, on the Cornell University campus. A natural falls later reshaped by nineteenth-century engineering, it was altered when a dam created Beebe Lake upstream and began regulating the water spilling over the cascade, causing its appearance to vary widely with conditions. In 1997, a pedestrian bridge built above the falls connected Cornell’s Central and North campuses, making the site an important crossing as well as a scenic landmark. The falls are also associated with the 1969 death of Romanian dancer Iris Barbura, linking the place to both daily campus life and tragedy.
