Orators Mound is a Native American burial mound in Glen Helen Nature Preserve above Yellow Spring near Yellow Springs, Ohio. Its commanding position by a prominent spring suggests long prehistoric importance. The mound later took its modern name after Daniel Webster and Henry Clay spoke from it during the 1840 election campaign. Excavations in 1953 and 1954 under Frank Van Wort are poorly documented, but a 1971 Antioch College investigation under Wolfgang Marschall uncovered an earlier trench, explored about a third of the mound, and found a central burial chamber. Its cultural affiliation remains debated between Adena and Hopewellian, yet its significance was recognized with National Register listing in 1974.
