Constructed shortly after 1900, this building housed the first post office and over the years was used by various institutions including Arkansas Acceptance Corp, the Security Bank, and First Federal S&L before becoming the Coffman Center. In 1921, outlaw Henry Starr, a nephew of Belle Starr, attempted to rob the bank here but was shot and killed by J.W. Myers, a former bank president, with a rifle hidden inside the vault. The robbery was recorded as the first reported bank robbery using an automobile in the U.S. Before his death, Starr portrayed himself in the silent movie "Debtor to the Law."
