Mystic Caverns and Crystal Dome are neighboring show caves in northern Arkansas, about 400 feet apart and known for abundant cave formations. Mystic Caverns originated as a sinkhole entrance known to settlers in the 1830s and evolved through several names and owners, from early lantern-lit tours to Albert Raney Sr.’s major improvements and reopening in 1950. The property later passed to the developers of Dogpatch USA. During construction there in the 1960s, Crystal Dome was discovered and carefully protected because of its pristine condition before eventually opening to the public in 1981. The caves later drew about 15,000 visitors annually but have been closed indefinitely since 2021.
