In 1940, the Tennessee Society Daughters of the American Revolution resolved to establish a memorial forest as a Jubilee project commemorating the 50th anniversary of the National Society DAR. The 34-acre forest was planted in 1941 in the Cherokee National Forest near Ducktown on Highway 64 as part of the Penny Pines project, a federal initiative promoting reforestation. It stood as a tribute to the Tennessee Society's commitment to environmental stewardship, and as the 250th anniversary of American independence approaches, the Tennessee Society DAR continues its legacy of supporting reclamation efforts in national forests.
