The State of Texas erected the Dawson Memorial to the memory of Captain N. H. Dawson and his command, who fell at the Battle of Salado, Texas, on Sept. 18th, 1842. A correction identifies him as Captain Nicholas Mosby Dawson and states that he and 36 other volunteers were killed near Salado Creek in Bexar County, Texas.
