The Chester Store, now known as the Old Towne Corner Store, was built in 1912 by George Olsen after he and his brothers subdivided the Olsen Ranch, and it is one of the oldest buildings in Chester. Sue and Harry Isbell purchased it in 1929, Bill Poyner was the proprietor in the 50’s and 60’s, and Ed, Lois, and Gary Lickiss have owned and run it since 1976. Maude Gay, cousin to the Olsens, started the Post Office in 1908 and moved it here in 1912. The building has also served as a library, insurance office, and ice house, and it had the first gas pumps in Chester. Rumor has it that some bootleg liquor may have passed through its doors in the good old days, and it was and remains a hub of activity in Olde Towne.
