On this site, on August 31, 1886, Reverend J. N. Sullivan prayed, "Lord, if it takes it to move the hearts of these people, shake the grounds on which this old building stands." Before the conclusion of his prayer, the grounds were violently shaken by a sudden earthquake. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16.
