Local Methodists in Columbiaville, assisted by circuit riders, organized a church about forty years before this Romanesque red brick structure was completed in 1897 for the Methodist Protestant Church of Columbiaville. In 1865 the congregation erected a parsonage and held services there until 1880, when its first church was built. That earlier church was struck by lightning and burned in 1896, and the present building was completed on the same site the following year at a cost of $3,000. It has also served for school graduation and baccalaureate ceremonies and other community gatherings.
