Sol Duc Hot Springs is a cluster of geothermal springs and pools in the Sol Duc Rainforest of Olympic National Park, in a valley shaped by the Sol Duc River. Long valued by local Native American tribes for therapeutic qualities, the springs drew settlers’ attention in the 1880s. A major resort opened in 1912 and was promoted as a premier pleasure and health destination on the Pacific Coast until fire destroyed it in 1916. Rebuilt on a smaller scale in the 1920s, it operated into the 1970s, later recovered from thermal spring problems, and was rebuilt again in the 1980s. It still attracts thousands of visitors annually.
