Siloam Springs State Park in Adams and Brown counties spans 3,323 acres of rugged wooded terrain shaped by McKee Creek and known in the 19th century for five mineral springs believed to have healing value. Land once granted in Illinois’ military tract passed to Black Hawk War and Mexican War veteran George Meyers in 1852, and after his death Quincy Burgesser promoted the springs as a resort and bottled-water destination reached by rail. The resort declined in the early 20th century, and its buildings were later lost, though the hotel foundation remains. In the 1950s, a dam created a 58-acre lake, and the area became a state park focused on outdoor recreation.
