Beneath modern development at this site lie many layers of history. Across the river, Isaac Behunin, the area's first pioneer settler, built his cabin in 1862. Human history here reaches much farther back, as Paiutes hunted and fished this part of the canyon and Ancestral Puebloans built granaries hundreds of years earlier. An Ancestral Puebloan granary from about A.D. 1250 and tour buses at Zion Lodge in 1929 together reflect the long span of human activity in the canyon.
