Fingerboard Mountain
Nature
Fingerboard Mountain in Orange County, New York, lies southeast of Central Valley within Harriman State Park. Its most clearly documented historical feature was a sixty-foot Aermotor LS40 fire tower erected there in 1928 by the Palisades State Park Commission. It was one of three towers built in the park that year, along with those on Bear Mountain and Jackie Jones Mountain, to create what the commission regarded as an adequate fire-detection system. Fire lookout service on the mountain ended in the early 1970s, and the tower was later closed and removed.
