On October 18, 1776, Colonel John Glover, Colonel Joseph Read, Colonel William Shepard, Colonel Loammi Baldwin, and their 750 Continentals fought at the Battle of Pelham. Their courageous action delayed General William Howe’s British invasion and enabled General George Washington to move the Continental Army to White Plains.
