The Murry Site in Manor Township, Pennsylvania, preserves the remains of a large, stockaded Shenks Ferry village from the late precontact era in the lower Susquehanna Valley. Excavations in 1967 showed that the settlement was occupied for about 10 years sometime between 1450 and 1550. The site is particularly significant for the evidence of a fortified village and for 46 burials, which gave archaeologists insight into how the community was organized and how its space was used. Because it offers an important record of Shenks Ferry life, the site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
