Island SPACE Caribbean Museum, at Broward Mall in Plantation, Florida, opened in November 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic as a pan-Caribbean heritage museum operated by the nonprofit Island SPACE. Developed from traveling exhibits on Caribbean culinary history created by co-founders Calibe Thompson and David Muir, it combines a historical archive, fine art gallery, and community event spaces. Its collections and programs explore Caribbean history from pre-colonial societies through slavery, emancipation, and modern cultural life, while highlighting ties to the United States. With material from across the Caribbean and public programming on major social and cultural themes, it serves South Florida’s large Caribbean diaspora.
