William Jennings Bryan (1860 - 1925) was an attorney, politician, orator, and three-time presidential nominee. In the early 20th century, the Chautauqua movement brought internationally known figures to rural America. At Cameron’s 1922 Chautauqua, Bryan spoke on this site. The Cameron Sun called him “America's foremost orator” who still stood at the head of American speakers despite his political vicissitudes, predicted that a monster audience would greet him at the Cameron Chautauqua, and reported that college Pres. Harmon was arranging to broadcast Bryan's address, “The World's Greatest Need,” and other Chautauqua numbers from the Missouri Wesleyan sending station.
