Dart Island State Park is an undeveloped wooded sandbar island in the Connecticut River at Middletown, Connecticut, reachable only by boat. Once used by fishermen during hickory shad runs, it was donated in 1918 by Russell Dart to the Connecticut State Park Commission and became Connecticut’s fifteenth state park. Long regarded as an unusually small park, its reported size varied from about one and a half to two acres, though by 2012 its official size was listed as 19 acres. Surrounded by industrial neighbors, it remains without public facilities, managed for quiet low-impact uses such as boating, fishing, and bird watching.
