Sweetbay Bogs Preserve is a one hundred ninety-four-acre protected area in western Stone County, Mississippi, near Red Creek in the Pascagoula River watershed. Established in 1989 by the Mississippi Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, it preserves a classic hillside seepage bog, a critical natural community within the longleaf pine ecosystem that once covered much of the Gulf Coastal Plain. Also known as pocosins, these bogs support an unusual concentration of rare plants, including bog spicebush, coast sedge, flame flower, and Harper's yellow-eyed grass, along with sundews, bladderworts, butterworts, pitcher plants, and the rare gopher tortoise. Management uses prescribed burning and protects surrounding water flow to maintain the habitat.
