Rochester was discovered and named in the early 1860s by prospectors from Rochester, New York. The area was relocated in 1912 when Joseph Nenzel discovered large bodies of silver ore, leading to a great mining boom a year later. Rochester produced about 9 million dollars in silver ores, although gold, copper, and lead were also taken.
