Vetter Mountain, a 5,911-foot peak in Southern California’s San Gabriel Mountains within Angeles National Forest, is tied to both recreation and forest protection history. Named around 1933 for forest ranger and fire dispatcher Victor P. Vetter, it honors his conservation work and links the mountain to early fire protection in the range. Its best-known feature is a 1937 fire lookout that served until 1981, was restored and reopened by volunteers in 1998, destroyed in the 2009 Station Fire, and rebuilt in the original 1930s style by 2020. The mountain also overlooks major forest routes and nearby Charlton Flats picnic grounds.
