International Harvester built the first model in 1924. It was designed to cultivate or weed between rows. Instead of the traditional side-mounted flywheel to which a belt was attached to run machinery, the Farmall had what was known as a power take-off, a drive shaft that stuck out of the back of the tractor and could be linked directly to power machinery.
