Near Napier in West Virginia, the Bulltown Civil War Site preserves the remains of a Union fortification tied to the Battle of Bulltown, fought there on October 13, 1863, during the American Civil War. Its significance extends below ground, where test excavations in the 1970s uncovered structural remains, features, and artifacts that helped confirm the nature of the wartime position. The property was later purchased by the Army Corps of Engineers during development of Burnsville Lake and is now administered as part of the Bulltown Historic Area. In 1984, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places as both a battlefield-related site and an archaeological record of the Civil War in central West Virginia.
