Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park
Nature
Stonewall Jackson Lake State Park in Lewis County, West Virginia, occupies the shores of Stonewall Jackson Lake, a reservoir on the West Fork River created by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Completed in 1990 as a modest park with a campground, marina, and support buildings, it was later transformed after legislation backed by Senator Robert C. Byrd allowed the state to avoid repaying construction debt if major improvements were made. A public-private financing partnership funded a large resort expansion, creating a destination that now combines boating, fishing, trails, cottages, a large lodge, conference facilities, pools, a spa, restaurants, and a nationally recognized golf course.
