Traverse City State Park is a seventy-five-acre public recreation area in East Bay Township on the southern shore of East Grand Traverse Bay, near Traverse City. Although it has waterfront access, it is used mainly as a campground, with about three hundred fifty electric campsites and supporting facilities including bathroom buildings, a dump and fill station, and recycling and trash services. A highway divides the campground from the bayfront beach, which campers reach by overpass. The park also connects directly to the TART Trail, linking it to a ten and a half-mile bicycle route through Traverse City. In 2011, its official name was expanded to honor Keith J. Charters.
