Fort Ransom State Park in southeastern North Dakota occupies a scenic stretch of the Sheyenne River Valley near the town of Fort Ransom and reflects the landscape that shaped settlement there. The park preserves two homesteader farms, the Bjone House and the Andrew Sunne farm, connecting it to the families who established farms in the valley. Its visitor center presents both the lives of nineteenth-century sodbusters and the much earlier Mound Builders, whose presence in the area dates back roughly five thousand to eight thousand years. Alongside that long historical span, the park serves year-round recreation with trails, camping, lodging, picnic areas, group facilities, and river access.
