In 2002, Mayor Michael R. Brown accepted Xcel Energy’s donation of plaques chronicling the events of the Great Flood of 1997. Originally dedicated on the flood’s fifth anniversary as a permanent gift to the community, they honored the courage, determination, and community spirit of the people who lived through the disaster. In 2007, they were reinstalled at each corner of the block. Marked by a red line showing the water level at this site during the 1997 flood, they serve as a reminder of what was lost and what was learned, preserving stories of struggle, hardship, and recovery for future generations.
