Red River State Recreation Area in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, lies along the Red River of the North and the Red Lake River as part of the Greater Grand Forks Greenway. Owned and managed by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, it was created in direct response to the 1997 Red River flood. The area serves as a natural buffer while also providing public open space, joining floodplain land to recreation in a landscape shaped by one of the region’s most significant natural disasters.
