Eagle Mountain
Nature
Eagle Mountain is a peak in Ulster County, New York, within the Big Indian Wilderness of Catskill State Park, surrounded by other high Catskill summits. Its chief significance is geographical: it stands near a watershed divide where its east and northeast slopes drain through Esopus Creek to the Hudson River and New York Bay, while its north, west, and south sides drain through Dry Brook to the East Branch of the Delaware River and ultimately Delaware Bay. The mountain is also tied to a long-circulating local mystery about a supposed plane wreck whose location has never been found, and it remains a remote protected backcountry landscape.
