Before 1935, most of the earth used to build the lake was moved by mule teams pulling slip buckets and wagons rather than dump trucks. Stanley Dolinar recalled, "We used mules and dump wagons before we got dump trucks." A pair of slip buckets actually used in building the lake survives, and a bridge visible in a photograph stood somewhere between the present marina and Evening Breeze Point.
