In 1902, a coal mine opened at Lake Lahusage in neighboring DeKalb County. The mined coal was carried by a "dinky line" to the brow of Lookout Mountain at Five Points in Cherokee County. The TAG railroad built a spur line about 2½ miles long just south of Menlo, GA, through the Coe Community. An incline to the top of the mountain, at an elevation of about 1500 feet, was built to receive the coal from Lake Lahusage. The mine operated until 1916, when it became unprofitable. The name Lahusage came from La in Lamb, Hu in Hubbard, and Sage in Sage, the three men who opened the mine.
