The first part of Dunbar Cave has light, temperature differences, and some protection from weather. Inside is a twilight zone with less light and less temperature change. Many plants and animals live in or visit the entrance and twilight zone, including Nursery Spider, Pickerel Frog, Water Pimpernel, Herald Moth, Eastern Pipistrelle, Cave Cricket, Millipede, Cave Salamander, and Eastern Phoebe. The time when the cave entrance was part of an entertainment resort, though fondly remembered, is over, and it is now a natural habitat accessible to all visitors.
