Dunbar Cave was once a show cave used for entertainment such as music and dancing, and it was the subject of many local postcards. Cool air flowing out of the cave provided natural air conditioning. A wooden dancing pavilion was first mentioned in a newspaper article in 1883. A wooden dance floor existed by 1911, the first concrete dance floor was built in 1916, and the dance floor was extended and a concession stand built in 1933. The stand originally had a peaked roof, later changed to the flat roof seen today. By 1947, the dance floor and concession stand appeared much as they do today, though the trees and benches were later removed.
